About the Author:

Suzy Koontz is an educational consultant, an actuary, a former math teacher,

the founder of Learn Thru Movement, Inc., the Math & Movement program and

the author of numerous books. Math & Movement is a kinesthetic,

multi-sensory approach to teaching math that incorporates physical exercise,

stretching, cross-body movements, and yoga. The program uses visually

pleasing floor mats that allow children to practice basic skills while using

visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning modalities.


The goal of the Math & Movement program is to lead students through a series

of movement-based learning exercises that result in mathematical competency

and confidence! Suzy is also the founder and director of the National Math

Foundation, a non-profit whose mission is to enhance basic math and literacy

skills and increase wellness in students and teachers.

Suzy’s work has been featured in television, radio and print. She is a

national speaker at schools, conferences, and PTA/O events.  Suzy lives in

Ithaca, NY with her husband and 4 daughters.
