This version of our Measurement Hop floor mat depicts lengths up to 60 feet/720 inches/20 yards. The 60 center blocks each measure one foot.

On the left side of the mat, there are small rectangles showing length in inches. On the right side, long rectangles depict the length in yards. This mat’s layout makes it easy to compare lengths between the standard units of measurement.

This mat comes in 5 parts that are held together with Velcro on each end. Lay out the length that your class is practicing and slowly advance up to 60 feet! Turn your hallway or gym into a pathway to practice measurement skills with an easy set up.

Kids love to move and they learn best while doing so! Try new kindergarten measurement activities. Have your young learners start on 0 feet and hop on each block to measure a distance up to 60 feet! Or have students lay their bodies on the mat and measure their height in inches. Measure the length of different objects around the school and compare sizes between big items and small items.

Sample Activity: Which One?

• Ask a student to identify an object in the room and, without actually getting the object, ask them which unit they would use to measure the chosen item.
• To check, they can get the item (if reasonable) and place it on the mat to see if they made a good choice.
• For example, a student chooses a poster and to measure it in feet. They will get the poster and lay it on the mat and see if feet is a reasonable way to measure the poster.
• Extend this activity to items that are not in the classroom but that students are very familiar with. Have them choose a unit of measurement appropriate for the item using the mat as a guide. (e. g. their bed, a car, a tree, etc.)
