Operations Hop is the perfect tool for hands-on activities teaching math vocabulary and the different operations. Kinesthetic activities on this material will keep energetic elementary students engaged. Reading multi-step word problems and writing number sentences can actually be fun!

Operations Hop depicts and names the following math operations and symbols: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, greater than, greater than or equal to, less than, and less than or equal to. Students’ math vocabulary will expand as they step and jump on the mat.

For best results, install stickers on short nap/low pile carpets.

Sample Activity: Word Problems

• Give your students a word problem.
• Students will identify which operation is mentioned in the word problem. Have them jump to that symbol box on the mat and say the name of the operation aloud.
• Finally, have your students write out the number sentence using numerals and symbols.
