Symbol Hop

Hold up one of the symbols on the mat (printables found in the following pages). Have a student hop to that symbol on the mat and say what place the order is.
Wild Worksheets

Students will look at a number sentence on a worksheet. The student will jump on the first block (parenthesis) and look to see if there are any in their problem. Then, jump to the next block (exponent) and see if there are any in their problem. Have them continue down the mat until the problem […]
Bean Bag Decides

The student will throw a bean bag on the mat. Then, the student will give a number sentence that coincides with the operation on which the bean bag landed.
Problem Solving

Give your students a math problem. You can write them on note cards or just say them out loud. Then, have the students decide what they will do first and hop to that place on the floor mat. Examples: 4 x 9 + 8 (74 – 12) ÷ 2 x 3 2^4 + 5^5 8 […]
Mathematical Terms

Use the mat to practice mathematical terms. Have students jump down the mat and say, “Parentheses First, Exponents=Value, Multiplication=Product, Division=Quotient, Addition=Sum, Subtraction=Difference.”
Identify

Ask the students to identify parts of an expression using mathematical terms (sum, term, product, factor, quotient, coefficient). Give the student a mathematical term and the student will jump on the square with which it is associated.
Jump the Mat

Have students jump down the mat while reading each part of speech and its definition to familiarize themselves with the mat.
Use It

Once familiar with the mat, have students hop down the mat giving an example of each part of speech they land on. (Can use an example given as reference.)
Clipboard Jump

With a ‘parts of speech’ worksheet clipped to a clipboard, have students answer the questions using the mat.
Match it

Give each student a word verbally or written. Then have students jump to its part of speech on the mat.
