Ask your students the following questions. As you ask them the questions, have them touch the answers. Having students cross their bodies as they touch the fractions will enhance learning and engage both sides of the brain.

Where is the whole number one? Touch it. How long is it? Can you measure it?
Can you count the boxes that say ½? How many are there? Touch them as you count.
How many halves are in the whole number one? How long is the box that says ½? Touch them as you count.
Can you count the boxes that say ⅓ ? How many thirds are in the whole number one? How long is the box that says ⅓ ?
Can you count the boxes that say ¼ ? How many fourths are in the whole number one?
How long is the box that says ¼ ?
How many fourths are in ½?
