Activity Instructions

Have your student begin on START HERE. Have them hop on the 10 and say โ€œten,โ€ hop on the 20 and say โ€œtwenty.โ€ Continue to the end of the mat. As your student hops on each number, encourage them to simultaneously say the number name. If the counting gets ahead of the number your student is hopping on, encourage them to go back and start over.

Stepping (or hopping) on the number and saying the number name simultaneously is evidence of a childโ€™s understanding of one-to-one correspondence, which is essential to all mathematical processes. Be sure your studentโ€™s hopping is in sync with them saying the number!
