Activity Instructions

Create or use the word cards on the following pages that match the words and contractions on the floor mat. Mix up the words and put the words in a pile. Have students match the word cards with the base words and the contractions on the mat.

Extension: Cover up all of the contractions on the floor mat. Only give your students the contraction word cards. Have them find and match their cards to the missing contractions. Now cover all of the sets of the base words (the two words that are contracted)and give students the base word cards. Have them find and match their base word cards with the covered ones on the mat.
