How do the after school math programs work?
Math & Movement’s after school programs use a kinesthetic learning approach that combines physical movement with math instruction. By physically interacting with our materials – including floor mats, floor and wall stickers, and other manipulatives – children can solidify their understanding of abstract concepts in a concrete way. Plus, by moving around, students will be actively engaged in the learning process, making math enjoyable and lessons more effective.

Math & Movement primarily creates learning materials for elementary students. Movement-based learning strategies can benefit all students, including those who need additional math support and ELL students.
How does movement-based learning improve math skills?
Physical activity boosts oxygen levels and blood flow in the brain, allowing it to function in a prime state for learning! Furthermore, during exercise, the brain produces a protein that promotes the growth of new neurons and strengthens neural pathways. The result of moving while learning math is improved comprehension and memory retention!

Each day, educators can select a mat and an activity that highlight a math concept their students need more practice with! Our activities can also be adjusted based on the learning environment, whether for individual students or small groups.

While our After School Kits focus on teaching elementary math concepts, schools can certainly choose to order additional literacy materials along with their kit! We also have Literacy Kits that focus on K-5 ELA skills.
