Q&A: Summer Learning

Interested in Using Math & Movement this Summer? Here are some of the top questions we get to help you out!

Our Summer Learning Kits were created with 4 and 6-week K-5 summer programs in mind. We selected math floor mats that cover many essential learning objectives to help students build their mathematic foundations. We have three Summer Learning Kit options based on the amount of materials you would like. Any of these kits can be used throughout your whole summer learning program. Check out our Summer Learning Guide for an idea of how stations can be set up to teach different skills.

If you are looking for single grade-level options, our Classroom Kits can also be used in summer learning programs.

If you are looking for literacy options, check out our K-2 and 3-5 Literacy Kits.

If you are looking for a kit with more than one of each mat, check out our K-2 Math Kit and 3-5 Math Kit. These kits were designed for a whole school learning plan. We have extra mats for core math concepts in grades K-2 and 3-5. This allows teachers to have some of their own mats and keep them in their classroom.

Summer Learning Kits – The materials in each kit were designed with 4 and 6-week K-5 summer programs in mind. These kits are similar in content to our math kits but only include one of each of the materials.

Classroom KitsThese kits include materials for the concepts taught at an individual grade level. For example, the Kindergarten Math Kit includes materials that would cover concepts taught in Kindergarten.

K-2 and 3-5 Math KitsThese are our most comprehensive math kits that are best for entire schools. They include multiple of many of the mats so more than one teacher can use the same material on the same day.

K-2 and 3-5 Literacy KitsOur sole literacy kit option. Our other kits only include math materials. These kits include our top literacy floor mats for each grade group.

Absolutely! Our kits can be a great place to start, but if you’re interested in fewer materials, each mat is available for purchase individually. Let us know if you need help finding anything!

We have an online database of hundreds of activities included in the kits. This is available to you for free when you purchase our materials. Reach out if you would like to see this before purchasing!

We also have created two activity booklets that match all of the materials in our K-2 and 3-5 Math Kits. Reply to this email and let us know if you would like to review a copy of the guide.

Our Summer Learning Guide can also give you an idea of the activities that can be completed with the floor mats.

We can help you plan out your summer program regardless of the amount of time you have over the summer! A quote I like is “Let summer be an incubator for what you want to accomplish over the summer”! One great thing about our materials is that they can supplement any program your staff may be following and offer a great brain break during the day for students and staff! They can also reinforce and teach the core math and literacy concepts students are there to learn and understand.

Budget can play a large role in this, so regardless of time frame, try to choose the kit/materials that fit your school’s budget. The more materials your school has access to, the more math concepts students can learn and practice over the summer. Each one of our kits details the core math concepts that each mat covers, so you can always select the kit that has the math concepts you are most interested in covering over the summer.

We can work with you and your summer learning curriculum administrators to create a complimentary summer learning plan. Email us at info@mathandmovement.com if you’re interested in viewing a sample guide.

Yes! Any of our kits would be great in the classroom, before or after school, or with family engagement events during the school year. Our K-2 and 3-5 Math Kits have multiples of mats which makes it a little easier to share between classrooms – just in case more than one teacher wants to use the same material on the same day!

When mats are not in use, we recommend rolling them up. For the larger square mats, folding may be necessary. If you have access to a storage closet or space in your classroom for extra materials, that may be a good place to store the mats.

We have storage options available here.

We also have created instructions for building your own storage unit.
