Fibonacci Number Hop

Fibonacci numbers are named after an Italian mathematician, Leonardo da Pisa (1175-1250), who was better known as Fibonacci. Fibonacci numbers are found everywhere from nature, to art, to music, to architecture! With this floor mat, children will learn the first numbers in the Fibonacci sequence and how to calculate the rest!

    1. Create Fibonacci Numbers

      Have a student begin at START HERE. Have them follow this pattern down the mat: Hop to the red block and say, “one.” Hop on the green zero block and...

    2. Complete the Pattern

      Cover up one or several blocks on the mat. Have students say the missing number out loud as they hop through the mat.

      Have students complete the worksheet on the following pages using the mat to help them.
