Clues could include things like

  • the first letter of the name
  • the name of its baby
  • how many letters are in its name
  • the color square it is on
  • a characteristic of it that can be seen on the mat
  • a rhyming word to its name or its baby’s name

Animal Matching

Have students start at the bottom of the mat and jump on the baby animal side, name the baby then jump to the matching adult and name it. Continue down the mat matching each set of animals.

To make it a little more challenging, cover the name of each adult animal so the students have to think of the name as they match them.

Material Needed: Bean Bag

Have students hone their gross motor skills by tossing a bean bag onto the mat and jumping back and forth between the columns until they reach their bean bag. Then, the student will pick it back up and jump back to the beginning.
