The Place Value Walk

Stand on the mat on the ones column. Say, “ones.” Step to the tens, say, “tens.” Then to the hundreds, say, “hundreds,” and to the thousands, say, “thousands.”
Grade 1, Grade 2, Grade 3, Grade 4, Grade 5

Number Memorization

Using notecards, cover up the number for each of the elements. Have students tell you what the number is for each element. When they get it correct, they can take off the notecard. If they get it incorrect, the notecard has to stay until they get the correct number for the element.

Abbreviation Memorization

Using notecards, cover up the abbreviations for each of the elements. Have students tell you what the abbreviation is for each element. When they get it correct, they can take off the notecard. If they get it incorrect, the notecard has to stay until they get the correct abbreviation.
