Hop by 100

Have students begin at ten. Have them hop by 100 as they say the number out loud. Continue until they reach 1,000. Then, try to go backward!
Grade 2

Hop by 50

Have students begin at ten. Have them hop by 50 as they say the number out loud. Continue until they reach 1,000. Then, try to go backward!

Grade 2, Grade 3

Hop by 20

Have students begin at twenty. Have them hop on every other block and say the number.“20, 40, 60, 80…” Continue until they reach 1,000. Then, try to go backward!

Grade 2, Grade 3

Hop by 10

Have students begin at ten. Have them step or hop on each block and say the number out loud. Continue until they reach 1,000. Then, try to go backward!

Grade 2

Positive Affirmations in a Hat

Give students a small piece of paper (quarter page). Have your students write a response to the prompts listed on the mat. Add all of the responses to a hat (or some type of container). Have students select a paper out of the container. They will stop on the mat at the specific prompt and read out the written response to the class.

Artists Choice

Have students choose a box and draw a picture that they feel goes with that box. For example, students might choose the section “I am happy” The student would then draw a picture of something that makes them happy. Maybe their pet at home, or a friend. Give different examples if students seem to be struggling.

Morning Check-in

As students come in the door each morning, have them hop to a box and “check-in” with you. They can share something they are feeling for whatever box they decide to hop on. The final 4 boxes can either be used to discuss other things they might be happy or like about themselves or life, or all 4 boxes can be used to discuss how they bring brightness into others’ lives.

Bean Bag Toss

Have a student stand on the start box. The student will toss a bean bag and then hop to the box that it lands on. That student will then share something that relates to that box. For example, the student might toss the bean bag to the box “brightness to” the student would say something that they add brightness to in life. The final 4 boxes can either be used to discuss other things they might be happy or like about themselves or life, or all 4 boxes can be used to discuss how they bring brightness into others’ lives.

Partner Hop

Have students pair up with a partner. Students will begin on the start here and then hop with a partner through the mat. They will stop at each box and share with their partner something that relates to the box. When they both have shared, they will move to the next box. The final 4 boxes can either be used to discuss other things they might be happy or like about themselves or life, or all 4 boxes can be used to discuss how they bring brightness into others’ lives.

Hop the Mat

Have students hop to a different section on the mat and share with their classmates one thing that they feel about themselves depending on the section they stand on. For example, a student might hop to the “I am Happy” section. They might say “I am happy to be at school” to the other classmates. Continue having students hop through the mat choosing different sections. The final 4 boxes can either be used to discuss other things they might be happy or like about themselves or life, or all 4 boxes can be used to discuss how they bring brightness into others’ lives.
