Odd Owls

Owls only like to land on odd numbers. Can you find an odd number to swoop down and land on?
Kindergarten, Grade 1

Counting Money

Place some quarters, dimes and nickels in paper cups. Students take one paper cup, add up the coins and stand on floor mat on the number that is the sum of their coins.

Grade 1, Grade 2

Quaint Quarters

Place quarters in paper cups. Have enough paper cups for each of your students. The number of quarters can vary in each cup. Students take one paper cup, add up the quarters and stand on the floor mat on the number that is the sum of their quarters.

Kindergarten, Grade 1, Grade 2

Daring Dimes

Place dimes in paper cups. Have enough paper cups for each of your students. The number of dimes can vary in each cup. Students take one paper cup, add up the dimes and stand on the floor mat on the number that is the sum of their dimes.

Kindergarten, Grade 1, Grade 2

Naughty Nickels

Place nickels in paper cups. Have enough paper cups for each of your students. The number of nickels can vary in each cup. Students take one paper cup, add up the nickels and stand on the floor mat on the number that is the sum of their nickels.

Kindergarten, Grade 1, Grade 2

Tally Treats

Select items for students to count such as pebbles, pennies, buttons, etc. Give each student a small container with items to count. Students count items with tallies. After documenting the number of items in the container with tallies, each student adds up the tallies. The student goes to the floor mat and sits on the number. If a student needs to wait for other students to finish counting, then have the student read while sitting on their number.

Kindergarten, Grade 1

Appendix has number cards listed

Rounding

Create notecards with numbers ranging from 100 to 1,000. Have a student select a card. The student will round that number to the closest hundred and hop to that number.

Grade 3

Word Problems

Give students word problems verbally as they use the mat to help figure out the answer.

Examples:
If Sarah picks 200 apples and Adam picks 400, how many did they pick all together?
John has 1,000 beads and loses 400 of them; how many beads does he have now?

Grade 2

Dice Decide

Have a student roll two dice. If a three is rolled, the student stands on that many hundreds on the mat (300). Then, have them add or subtract the amount (in hundreds) shown on the second dice.
