Frequently Asked Questions
What grade levels are the summer learning kits designed for?
Our summer learning kits include materials and activities suitable for students in grades K-5.
Is the summer learning curriculum aligned with state standards?
Yes! All Math & Movement materials are aligned with state standards.
What is included in each of your summer learning kits?
Each summer learning kit includes a selection of kinesthetic floor mats, manipulatives, unlimited access to our activity database, printable resources, ebooks, and optional pre- and post-assessments to track student progress.
What skills will students work on with your summer learning materials?
Students develop fluency and confidence in core math areas like counting, addition, subtraction, place value, measurement, and multiplication. Our materials also include integrated literacy components to support reading skills and vocabulary development.
What types of activities are included in your summer learning resources?
Students engage physically with math concepts by stepping, hopping, skipping, crawling, and tracing on our mats. The colorful designs engage visual learners, and many of our activities include auditory components, such as chanting numbers or explaining one’s thinking.
With play-based learning front of mind, many of our activities on the mats are game-like. Some include friendly competition between teams. Others involve using the mats as tools to solve problems on a worksheet. We also have a few “shopping” activities where students pretend to go to a store and use their money math skills to purchase items!
What summer teaching resources can I use to make my program a success?
The most effective summer teaching resources prioritize engagement, structure, and standards alignment.
Math & Movement provides complete summer learning kits that include floor mats, manipulatives, scripted lesson plans, ebooks, and printable materials. These resources are easy to use and adaptable to various program schedules and group sizes. Plus, movement-based strategies enhance learning comprehension and retention.
Optional teacher trainings and workshops are also available to ensure your staff feels equipped to use Math & Movement.
Why should I add Math & Movement to my summer school program?
Math & Movement enhances summer learning by turning your curriculum into an interactive, kinesthetic experience. Our program harnesses a child’s natural inclination for play and movement and turns it into enthusiasm for acquiring academic skills.
Furthermore, our materials are aligned with state standards, and our activities are easy to implement. Movement-based activities can be so fun that students may not even realize that they are learning!
By adding kinesthetic elements to your summer school activities, you’ll increase student engagement, comprehension, and retention. Math & Movement keeps summer learning fun and low-pressure but also effective and meaningful.
Why are summer learning programs important?
Summer learning programs are important because they prevent students from losing the academic progress they made during the school year while on summer break. Students can lose 2 months or more of math skills when they are not engaged.
Summer school programs also keep students academically engaged, help them retain and reinforce skills, and prepare them for the upcoming school year.
How do summer learning programs prevent summer learning loss?
A study by the RAND Corporation found that students who attended voluntary, district-led summer learning programs entered school in the fall with stronger math skills than those who did not attend the programs.
Summer school programs prevent learning loss by providing continuous academic engagement. By participating in structured learning activities during the summer, students maintain, reinforce, and build upon the skills they developed during the school year. Better yet, kinesthetic activities make these lessons fun and easier to remember!
Why should I include movement in my summer learning program?
Children love to move—and they need to move! Too much sitting results in decreased circulation and a subsequent decrease in concentration.
Physical activity increases the flow of oxygen-rich blood to the brain, allowing it to function at optimal levels for learning. Additionally, the brain releases proteins that encourage the growth of neural pathways. Exercise also promotes the growth of the hippocampus – the region of the brain responsible for memory and learning.
Overall, movement helps students learn effectively and makes lessons more enjoyable!

“Before Math & Movement, our kids were really struggling with the concept of having to do math…Our kids felt like math was scary…Now, I don’t even know if they realize they’re doing math…They absolutely have a different viewpoint. They feel like it is something they can learn.”

Fayth Jenkins
Principal, Suncoast School for Innovative Studies

“As a dual language school with specific needs that were not being met with existing methods, we worked with Math & Movement to custom-design floor mats and other resources to support our curriculum. Our entire school is now equipped with kinesthetic learning materials that are fully aligned with our educational objectives. We are extremely grateful to Math & Movement for their support and flexibility. Thanks to these materials, our students experience significant benefits in their learning every day.”

Eli Hernandez

“We have used Math & Movement for over five years, and the results have been remarkable. The mats are durable and require no maintenance. The teacher who used the materials in nearly every lesson has the highest math scores in the school. Math & Movement played a key role in transforming us from a school in need of improvement to one in good standing.”

Eva Williams
Former Principal, Van Duyn Elementary School
Syracuse City School District

“It’s an amazing program. I love that it’s supplemental to our core curriculum. It’s a really nice springboard and seems to support our math in focus series in a way that gets kids tired out at the same time!”

Joe DiCaprio
Former Principal, Woodlawn Elementary School
Current Deputy Superintendent, Schenectady City School District

“As a special education teacher, I love using these mats in our general education classroom. Every child is engaged and excited to learn their multiplication tables. When I bring a mat out the whole class cheers. Thank you for making math more accessible not just for my students, but every child in our classroom.”
