Activity Instructions

Have the class surround the outside of the mat. Choose one student to start at the bottom on the ½. Have that student jump and land on the black line above the ½. As the student lands, the class and the student says “½.” The student then jumps and lands on the black line above 2/2. As the student lands, the class and the student says “2/2.” Then, the student jumps to the left and lands on the 1 in the purple column. As the student jumps, the class and the student say “2/2 makes a whole.”

Then, choose another student to do the same thing with the thirds column. Continue this pattern throughout the rest of the mat. When the students reach the sevenths column, have them jump to the 1 on the right side of the mat.
