Activity Instructions

Say a number less than 1,000 and have students round it to the nearest 100. Say a number less than 100 and have students round it to the nearest 10.

To round, have them first find which two numbers their number is between on the mat. If rounding to the nearest 10, ask them if the second digit is 5 or above. If so, they choose to round to the higher number. If rounding to the nearest 100, ask them if the tens digit is 5 or above. If so, then it is closer to the higher 100.
