Introducing our new Letter Flower Hop Mats Set – a fun way to bring engaging word recognition activities to your classroom! Early kindergarten and first grade readers can practice making words with the provided vowels and consonants. Fill your build-a-word games with movement on and around these letter flowers floor mats!
The Letter Flower Hop Mats Set includes two large floor mats. The first flower includes the following consonants on its petals: m, t, d, c, g, p, w, r, and l. The second flower includes the following consonants on its petals: n, h, s, f, v, b, j, x, and k. Each floor mat is 54 inches by 54 inches, providing students with ample space to move around on it.
Each letter flower has a space in its center to place a vowel. This mat set also includes five vowel letter cards (a, e, i, o, and u). The vowel cards and floor mats come with Velcro to securely attach the cards to the letter flowers. Students can jump on the flower’s center without any worries about the vowel card slipping or moving!
The Letter Flower Hop mats are perfect for both word blending and spelling CVC real words and nonsense words. Students learning to read can to practice letter sounds for both vowels and consonants. They will master identifying words quickly as a result of using these mats!
Choose the mat with the group of consonants you want to reinforce. Then, place a vowel in the center of the flower. First, ask a student to jump on a petal and say the consonant sound aloud. Next, have the student jump on the flower’s center and say the vowel sound aloud.
Finally, have the student jump on another petal (the same or a different consonant) and say the sound aloud. Put the letter sounds together and recite the word. Conclude the word recognition activity by classifying the word as a ‘real’ or ‘nonsense’ word.
For example, using the first floor mat and vowel “e,” the possible real words include leg, red, pet, and gem. The nonsense words are mep, cer, del, and teg. There are endless possibilities for making words on these mats!
Young students never like to sit still for long. Build-a-word games can be a full-body activity! Best of all, physical activity will improve students’ learning comprehension and memory retention while improving their gross motor skills.
