- First, give a student an amount of money, such as 23 cents.
- Then have them jump on the coins on the mat that they would use to make 23 cents.
- e.g the student may jump on two dimes (while skip counting by 10s up to 20). Then, they may jump three times on the penny (while adding 1, 2, 3 to 23) to make 23 cents.
- Then, challenge them to make the amount with as few coins as possible, or not using any quarters for larger amounts, etc.
- Finally, increase the amount of money to be higher and include dollars as students get more practice.
