Make teaching spelling fun with our Spell-A-Word Hop! Phonics and word recognition will become interactive and full of movement. Spelling words for 1st graders can be an exciting and hands-on activity for young readers. With Spell-A-Word Hop, you can bring your word-spelling games to the next level through movement-based learning.
The regular mat includes 48 letter cards to build words. The laminated mat is for use with dry-erase markers. At 30 inches wide and 110 inches long, these mats have adequate space for multiple students to jump while creating words up to 8 letters long.
The Spell A Word Hops can be used in a variety of spelling activities. Place the letter cards – or use dry-erase for laminated mat – on the eight colorful blocks on the top row to form words.
Have students stand in the blocks on the bottom row with feet pictured in them. Build phonics skills by asking them to make the letter sound in the block above their feet. Students can jump from one block to the next and sound out words.
Challenge students by leaving letters out of a word and asking students to complete the word with the correct letter cards. Spell common sight words or spelling word lists.
Introduce simple words to preschoolers and kindergartners. Expand to 1st grade words or even 2nd grade vocabulary. Watch your students’ phonemic awareness and reading skills improve with practice on this material. Best of all, movement-based learning will boost young students’ comprehension and memory retention while also improving motor skills.

Materials: Our regular floor mats are made from heavy-duty vinyl. They are easy to clean, durable, and long-lasting. Some teachers have used their mats for over 10 years! Laminated Floor Mats combine the power of our heavy-duty vinyl material with dry-erase laminate. The laminate works well with a dry-erase marker and can be cleaned easily.
Includes: 8 blocks for building words. The regular floor mat includes 48 letter cards. The laminated mat does not include cards as it is intended to be used with dry-erase markers.
