Activity Instructions

General: Use the mat to compare fractions. Is 3/7 larger or smaller than 1/6? Why? Repeat with new fractions that have different denominators and numerators.

3rd Grade: Ask your students, “Which is larger, 3/7 or 1/7? Why?” Have students get on the mat and see which is more if needed. Repeat using different fractions with the same denominator.

4th Grade: Ask your students, “Which is larger, ⅓ or 1/7? Why?” Have students get on the mat and measure each fraction block to help them solve it. Repeat using different fraction questions.
