Math Number Stencils for Your School!
Create a permanent number line or grid on your school’s playground or blacktop using these number stencils! Give your students an educational space outdoors to practice math concepts such as addition, subtraction, and skip counting. Best of all, they will be so engaged while moving around and playing on these painted spaces that they might not even realize that they are using math skills!
Our 1-100 Stencils are our most popular math stencils because of how versatile they are. Spray paint over the number stencils to make a variety of number lines and grids. Some of the designs you can create with these stencil sets include:
- 1-10 number grid (just like our Ten Frame Hop)
- 1-20 number line (just like our Skip Counting by 2s Mat)
- 1-100 number grid (just like our Add/Subtract Floor Mat)
- Any number grid up to 999!
Available in 2 Variations – Choose Between Version 1 or Version 2
We heard you! After receiving feedback from educators using our stencils, we have decided to make our 1-100 Stencils available in 2 different variations. Both versions allow you to paint the same number lines and grids mentioned above. Choose between our cost-effective option (Version 1) and our easy-application option (Version 2).
Version 1 – Cost-Effective
This is our original 1-100 Stencil design. Version 1 includes two frames, two sets of large numbers, one set of small numbers, and one star icon. Each frame is 25 by 62 inches. Each square within the frame is 11.25 by 11.25 inches. Each set of numbers includes numerals 0 through 9.
Use the set of small numbers to create triple-digit grids. Add the star icon by numbers that are multiples of 2 or 5.
Version 2 – Easy-Application
This version includes more stencils to make painting a hundred number grid easier and quicker! Version 2 includes two frames and ten grouped number stencils. The ten grouped number stencils feature each number from 1 to 100. Lay them out sequentially to create a 10×10 hundred number grid.
See Version 2’s product image to see the grouped numbers and the hundred number grid configuration. This version removes the hassle of creating numbers with individual numeral stencils. Paint your entire hundred number grid at once without having to move stencil pieces around!
Each frame stencil and grouped number stencil are 25 by 62 inches. Each square within the frame is 11.25 by 11.25 inches.
Before using your stencils, make sure your blacktop is free from excess debris, such as loose concrete or leaves, for a clean paint application to the pavement. For either version, first lay out your frame stencils and paint the square your numerals will go on. Then, lay out your number stencils on top of the squares to spray paint your numerals.
It is best to have a team of a few adults to help with painting. Please see our Stencil FAQ below.
Also available: Check out our Skip Counting Stencils to create number lines specifically to practice identifying multiples.

Commonly Asked Questions:
How many applications do the stencils hold up for?
Many variables go into this answer. The best way to ensure a long stencil life is to clean the paint off your stencil after each use. There is no need to clean the stencil so it looks new; You just want to prevent paint from building up around the edges. Many of our customers have used a single stencil for hundreds of applications.
Is spray paint included?Â
No, paint is not included. The amount of paint needed depends on the design(s) you are creating. Additionally, we recommend having a group of volunteers to help paint – ideally 3 people or more.
What kinds of math activities are possible outdoors?
Take a look at our activity database for math game ideas. Many of the activities that are possible on the Add/Subtract floor mat are also possible outdoors on a painted 1-100 number grid!
Shanay Cordova –
The math stencil was great for helping our students learn math outside. The students were engaged! They enjoyed being able to practice math skills such as addition, subtracting skip counting, multiplication facts and fraction practice. It will continue to be a great ongoing learning experience with math outside throughout the years to come.
