Sample Activity: Hopping Equivalent Fractions

• Stand on the large purple 1. Notice how the top line on the 1 box matches up to the top line of the 2/2 box.
• Jump on the 2/2 box and say, “1 is equivalent to 2/2.”
• Jump on the 3/3 box and say, “1 is equivalent to 2/2 and 3/3.”
• Jump on the 4/4 box and say, “1 is equivalent to 2/2, 3/3, and 4/4.”
• Continue to jump to determine all the fractions equivalent to 1.
• Stand on the 1/2 and jump to the right to the 2/4 and say, “1/2 is equivalent to 2/4.”
• Continue to jump to the right to find all the fractions equivalent to 1/2.
• Jump to find all the fractions that are equivalent to the following: 1/3, 1/4, 1/5, 2/3, 3/4, 2/5, and 4/5.
