The Finding Volume Mat depicts the following geometric shapes: cone, sphere, rectangular pyramid, cylinder, triangular prism, cube, and rectangular prism. In addition to listing each shape’s name, the mat includes a diagram of each shape with its length, width, height, sides, base, and/or radius labeled. The formula to calculate each shape’s volume is included below each shape’s diagram.

#### Sample Activity: Roll It

• First, have students take turns rolling a die to determine the side/radii lengths of shapes on the mat.
• Then, have them multiply the three dimensions to get the volume of the object.
• Additionally, have different students make the objects with the same dimensions out of unit cubes to check their work.
