Make teaching measurement fun with kinesthetic measuring activities for preschoolers
How can educators teach measurement in a fun, engaging way? Kinesthetically with our Measurement Hop Mat! Introduce new movement-based measurement activities for preschool, kindergartners, and elementary school students!
This version of our Measurement Hop floor mat depicts lengths up to 12 feet/144 inches/4 yards. The 12 center blocks each measure one foot.
On the left side of the mat, there are small rectangles showing length in inches. On the right side, long rectangles depict the length in yards. This mat’s layout makes it easy to compare lengths between the standard units of measurement.
Students learn best while they are moving! Try new measurement activities for your preschool class. Have your young learners start on 0 feet and hop on each block – a complete distance of 12 feet!
Or have students lay their bodies on the mat and measure their height in inches. Measure the length of different objects around the classroom and compare sizes between big items and small items.
Teaching measurement can be an energetic activity! Your students will have a strong understanding of the concept of measurement after moving their bodies on and around this mat. This is in addition to stronger math skills and number sense.
Learning how to measure objects is a real world skill, so it is easy to add manipulatives to your activities. Practicing measurement and learning measurement units does not have to be an abstract, stagnant lesson!
