Learning the basic shapes in geometry can be a fun game!
Geometric Shapes Hop is a large, colorful floor mat that introduces young mathematicians to geometry’s basic shapes. Ideal for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade, this mat makes geometry a physical, interactive lesson with games! Kinesthetic activities will keep energetic students excited about learning new and fun shapes.
At 120 inches long and 38 inches wide, Geometric Shapes Hop depicts and names the following basic shapes: triangle, square, pentagon, hexagon, heptagon, octagon, nonagon, and decagon. Students will excel at identifying, describing, tracing, and drawing shapes as they move their bodies on the mat.
Geometry for 3rd graders includes classifying shapes, drawing line segments, and finding areas and perimeters. In 4th grade geometry class students learn about measuring angles, identifying shapes’ sides that are parallel or perpendicular, and recognizing lines of symmetry in 2-dimensional shapes. Our hopping mat can aid in all of these math concepts and more!
A wide variety of geometry games are possible with this mat. Be sure to check out our activity database to see our ideas. It doesn’t have to be difficult for 2nd, 3rd, or 4th graders to learn geometry! Set students up for success in all their math classes with engaging lessons on basic geometric shapes.

Sample Activity:Â Name an Object
- Have students begin on “Start Here”.
- Students will jump on each box. They will name an everyday object that is the same shape as the one they are standing on.
- For example, “A slice of pizza is shaped like a triangle. It has three sides!” This geometry game brings the shapes into real life!
Marcia Wade –
This mat allows students to jump the number of sides of each shape. It helps students understand the difference between the shapes so much clearer than just looking at them.
