The Horizontal Number Line Hop comes in four different versions. Choose between a mat with the numbers -10 to 10 on it or numbers 0 through 20. Each mat includes 21 equidistant hash marks labeled with the numbers of your choice.

Additionally, you can choose to have the numerals below each hash mark or have the numerals both below and on top of each hash mark. In other words, choose between a single number line on the bottom of the mat or a double number line with numerals on both ends of the hash marks.

Measuring 30 inches wide and 211 inches long, these horizontal number line floor mats have plenty of space for multiple students to hop on them. Counting on a number line can be a whole classroom activity. Promote collaborative learning among your students!

Sample Activity: Step Forward and Backward (-10 to 10 Version)

• Have your student stand on 0.
• Instruct them to step forward 4 times. They should be standing on the number 4.
• Then, instruct them to step backward 6 times. They should be standing on the number -2.
• Continue this using different amounts of steps. Optionally, encourage students to recite the numbers aloud as they step on each one.
• Explain to your students that they are actually adding and subtracting with positive and negative numbers when they step forward and backward.
